Provided only to students who have been classified according to law by the Child Study Team, special education services are designed to deal with the unique needs of those students in the least restrictive educationaly environment. Their program of studies is determined by an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) developed by a Child Study Team consisting of a School Social Worker, School Psychologist, and Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant. A special Guidance Counselor works with all classified students. Based on their need, classified students may be placed in a full continuum of alternative placements ranging from regular education with supplmentary aids and services to resource programs providing instruction in and in lieu of the regular classroom to out-of-district placements for those with severe learning disabilities that cannot be accommodated in the home school. All such placements are determined by the IEP, which is developed in cooperation with the student's parents or guardians.
