Medications in School

Arrangements for pupil medication must be made with the school nurse. Formal written requests from the parent/guardian and a physician must be received before a pupil is to receive any prescription and/or "over the counter" medications. Pupil self-administration of medication for potentially life-threatening illnesses, e.g., asthma or bee sting reaction, is permitted and must also be arranged in advance for each school year.

If a pupil requires the administration of epinephrine and does not have the capability of self-administration, a written physician's note is required to verify this need, and all arrangements must be made in advance and renewed each year. The School Nurse shall have the primary responsibility for administering the epi-pen; but in emergency situations, another adult district employee may do so with prior consent of the parent.
